What do an unemployed United States veteran, a gang-banger, a grade-schooler, and a farmer have in common? No, this is not a lead-in to a joke. As a matter of fact, the work of Leave No Veteran Behind is deadly serious. The answer to the above question is that these people peacefully come in contact every day in the roughest neighborhoods in Chicago — benefiting from the work of Leave No Veteran Behind, whose innovative program design allows it to serve as America’s largest transitional jobs program for former military men and women while working to combat youth violence in Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods. From another perspective, JPMorgan Chase Bank, which works with and supports Leave No Veteran Behind, the other above programs, and additional veterans’ affairs efforts, a few years ago launched its own ambitious program to focus on hiring military veterans in permanent employment positions and just recently announced a significant increase in its commitment to that effort.
We will hear about how both for-profit and non-profit efforts are making a difference for so many here in the Chicago area.
