Celebrating and Stimulating Innovation in the Chicagoland Region

Luke Tanen will discuss the growth of the Chicago’s innovation community as witnessed through the rise of the Chicago Innovation Awards, the region’s foremost annual celebration of new products, services and organizations.

Now in its 11th year, the Awards honor innovation in organizations large and small, for-profit and not-for-profit, high tech, low tech and no tech, across all industries.  The winners each year are innovations that uniquely fill unmet needs, spark a competitive response in the marketplace, exceed market expectations, and improve people’s lives.  Most importantly, the Chicago Innovation Awards remind us that innovation is thriving in America’s heartland.

Luke will explain how a one-night awards ceremony in 2002 has grown to become a year-long civic program and cultural movement focused on celebrating Chicago’s most innovative organizations, providing innovation and entrepreneurship education, and connecting innovators with the people and resources they need to take their innovations to scale, laying groundwork for economic growth and job creation in our region.

Luke will be joined by the 2011 Winner of the People’s Choice Award at the Chicago Innovation Awards, Steve Casey, Founder of Fresh Moves.  Fresh Moves was awarded for its innovation that addresses the issue of food deserts in Chicago through a creative public-private partnership with the CTA.
